Abbas pays $2,000 to would-be bomber’s family

The attempted suicide bomb attack by a young Palestinian Arab on Israeli soldiers stationed at a checkpoint in Samaria turned out to be a financial windfall for the terrorist’s family.

It may not sound like a tremendous amount of money to most Westerners, but $2,000 is more than the average Palestinian makes in an entire year. And that’s how much Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas paid to the family of Khaldoun Najib Samoudi.

Samoudi was killed earlier this month when he strapped two pipe bombs to his chest and ran toward an Israeli army checkpoint screaming “Allahu Akbar” – “Allah is Greater.” The soldiers at the checkpoint shot and killed Samoudi before he could detonate his bombs.

In his presentation of the money to the Samoudi family, Kadura Musa, governor of the Jenin district in northern Samaria, said, “The grant is financial aid in the amount of $2000 that the President [Mahmoud Abbas] is awarding to the relatives of the Shahid, who was recently killed as a Martyr.”
